Telecom Tower Grounding Test Equipment — Annual Audit Workflow
2026年05月12日
Towers cannot be de-energised — clamp-on stake-less testing is the only practical mode. Here's the workflow.
The Tower-Grounding Constraint
A cellular BTS or microwave repeater cannot have its grounding electrode disconnected for testing — the rectifier needs the ground reference 24/7. Telecom tower grounding test equipment must therefore work in clamp-on stake-less mode for routine audits, with 4-pole capability available for new-build acceptance.
Step 1: Pre-Audit Documentation
- Tower ID, GPS coordinates.
- Soil type (sandy, clay, lateritic).
- Last audit date and reading.
- Lightning strike count (if surge counter installed).
Step 2: Clamp-On Loop Resistance Survey
Clamp the EK-C300 jaw around each ground riser at the tower base. Reading appears in 30 seconds — no stakes, no de-energising. Log readings at:
- Tower leg 1 riser.
- Tower leg 2 riser.
- Tower leg 3 riser.
- Equipment cabinet ground bar.
- Surge protector pigtail.
Step 3: Comparison to Design Value
Pass criterion typically < 5 Ω for towers with lightning protection; < 1 Ω for high-strike-density installations.
Step 4: 4-Pole Verification (Annual)
Once a year, also do a full 4-pole fall-of-potential at one tower leg as a cross-check on the clamp-on readings. Discrepancy > 20 % triggers electrode investigation.
Step 5: Soil Resistivity (If Failure)
If tower fails the readings, use Wenner 4-pole soil resistivity to determine if more electrodes or chemical treatment is needed.
Step 6: Documentation Output
- EK-C300 internal memory (1000 records).
- USB CSV export with timestamp + GPS.
- Annual fleet report by region.
EK Recommendation
The EK-C300 covers clamp-on, 4-pole, and Wenner from one instrument. Talk to EK service teams for telecom-fleet rollout.
