Why Mining Electrical Testing Is Different

Mining sites combine three challenges that ordinary industrial testing never faces at once: very long cable runs from surface substations to working faces, the constant risk of explosive methane or coal-dust atmospheres, and earthing systems that must perform in highly variable rock and soil resistivity. The right mining electrical safety testing equipment has to be rugged, intrinsically aware of these risks, and accurate enough to document compliance for the mine inspectorate.

1. Insulation Resistance on Long Feeders

A 2 km feeder to an underground pump has enormous distributed capacitance. A weak insulation tester sags under that load and gives false-low readings. You need a tester that holds test voltage to high resistance and offers PI/DAR auto-timing.

2. Earth and Bonding Verification

Mining earthing is safety-critical: an ungrounded fault near methane is catastrophic. Resistivity changes dramatically between wet and dry seasons, so earth resistance must be measured, not assumed.

3. Current and Load Verification

4. Personal Voltage Detection

5. Documentation for the Inspectorate
