Heavy-Duty Industrial Electrical Tester — Surviving Field Reality

"Heavy-duty" needs four real specs to be more than a marketing word. Here is the engineering definition.

The Four-Spec Definition

"Heavy-duty" is a marketing word until it is backed by four engineering specs. EK service teams require all four before approving a heavy duty industrial electrical tester for fleet deployment in mining, marine, and offshore work.

Spec 1: Drop Test

  • 1 m onto concrete, every face — minimum industrial requirement.
  • 2 m for mining and offshore — preferred.
  • Published drop-test report required, not just "shock-resistant."
  • EK-G645: 2 m drop tested onto every face — published report.

Spec 2: Ingress Protection

IP54 is the industrial baseline (dust + splash). IP65 (dust-tight + jet) is preferred for marine and outdoor utility work. The EK-G645 is IP54 standard; IP65 housing variant available on request.

Spec 3: Operating Temperature

  1. Indoor light industry: 0 to +40 °C.
  2. Outdoor general industry: -10 to +50 °C.
  3. Mining / offshore / SEA tropical: -20 to +60 °C.
  4. The EK-G645 is rated -20 to +55 °C — covers SEA, Middle East, and northern winter.

Spec 4: Chemical Resistance

Industrial sites have diesel, hydraulic fluid, mild acid, and salt mist. The case material must tolerate all four for the working life of the instrument. The EK-G645 case is ABS / TPE blend tested against ISO 175 standard reagents.

Beyond the Case — Internal Spec

  • Calibration drift < 0.5 % over operating temperature range.
  • Battery contacts gold-plated to resist corrosion.
  • PCB conformal coating against humidity.
  • Test-lead inputs sealed to IP54 even with leads removed.

EK Recommendation

The EK-G645 meets all four specs as standard. For mining or offshore use request the IP65 housing variant through EK service teams.
