Digital Earth Ground Tester — Selecting for Telecom and Substation Use
2026年05月12日
Telecom towers cannot be de-energised — the right ground tester gives a clamp-on reading in 30 seconds.
The Telecom-Tower Constraint
You cannot disconnect a cellular tower's ground electrode for testing — the BTS rectifier needs the ground reference 24/7. A digital earth ground tester with clamp-on stake-less mode is the only practical instrument for routine tower audits. The EK-C300 supports both clamp-on (fast survey) and 4-pole (acceptance) modes from the same unit.
1. Clamp-On Stake-less Mode
- Inject 820 Hz AC through one jaw, measure loop current with the other.
- Reading in 30 s, no stakes, no de-energising.
- Valid only in a multi-grounded loop (which towers always are).
2. When You Need 4-Pole Anyway
For acceptance testing on a new tower foundation, IEEE 81 requires fall-of-potential. The EK-C300 includes the 4-pole leads, current and potential stakes in the field kit.
3. Soil Resistivity (Wenner Method)
For tower design — calculating how many electrodes you need — soil resistivity is the input. The EK-C300 supports Wenner 4-pole resistivity from 1 to 5000 Ωm.
4. Substation Application
- Annual ground grid impedance check (clamp-on at multiple riser points).
- Step-and-touch potential survey using auxiliary probes.
- Lightning protection counter-reset audit.
5. Logging and Reporting
The EK-C300 stores 1000 readings with timestamp and GPS-ready location field. USB export to PC for monthly tower-fleet reports.
6. Battery and Environmental
- 8-hour Li-ion runtime.
- IP54 case.
- -15 to +55 °C operating.
EK Recommendation
For telecom-tower maintenance fleets and substation audit teams the EK-C300 digital earth ground tester is the one-tool answer. Request a demo through EK service teams.
