Solar Panel Installation Testing Tools — Field Kit for Indonesia & SEA

What Solar Commissioning Really Tests

A residential 5 kW PV install can pass visual inspection and still fail in 18 months from a missed fault that proper solar panel installation testing tools would have caught at commissioning. EK service teams ship a coherent four-instrument kit specifically for SEA solar installers — Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines.

1. DC String Open-Circuit Voltage

  • Verify Voc per string against datasheet × number of modules.
  • Tolerance: ± 5 % at standard temperature.
  • Tool: True-RMS DMM (1000 V CAT III) — EK-F598.

2. DC String Current

Compare actual Isc to spec at given irradiance. Significant under-current points to shading, soiling, or mismatched modules. Tool: 1200 A AC/DC clamp — EK-G645 (its DC mode is essential).

3. Insulation Resistance (Module + Cable)

  1. 1 kV insulation test from PV+ and PV- to frame.
  2. Pass: > 40 MΩ for residential, > 200 MΩ for commercial.
  3. Tool: EK-F598 1 kV insulation function.

4. Equipotential Bonding (Frame to Earth)

Every module frame must bond to system earth at < 1 Ω. Lightning strike survival depends on this. Tool: EK-C300 with low-Ω mode.

5. Earth Electrode Resistance

System earth target: < 10 Ω in coastal SEA soil; < 4 Ω for utility-tied installs. Tool: EK-C300 4-pole or clamp-on.

6. PPE for Installers

1500 V DC bus is lethal. Wear A186 wrist alarm at minimum during all DC-side work.
