High-Precision Multimeter for Electricians — When 0.1 % Beats 1 %
2026年05月12日
0.5 % is enough for most service work. Here are the four situations where you need to step up.
When General-Purpose Is Not Enough
Most service electricians are well served by a 0.5 % accuracy digital multimeter. But four field situations demand a high precision multimeter for electricians — and using a general-purpose unit gives wrong answers that cost money or safety.
1. Three-Phase Motor Balance
A 1 % accuracy meter cannot reliably distinguish a 2 % phase imbalance from a 1 % measurement error. Yet 2 % imbalance reduces motor life by 50 %. For motor-balance audits use 0.1 % accuracy or better.
2. Calibration Cross-Checks
To cross-check a calibrated reference you need an instrument 4 × more accurate than the device under test. For 1 % loop calibrators that means 0.25 % field reference; for 0.5 % bench instruments that means 0.1 %.
3. Harmonic Survey
Harmonic content quoted in % of fundamental requires accuracy better than the harmonic itself. To verify a 3 % 5th-harmonic distortion you need ≤ 0.5 % meter accuracy at the 5th harmonic frequency — and most service meters lose accuracy above 1 kHz.
4. Solar / Battery DC Bus
1500 V DC bus voltage matters to 0.1 % for SoH (state-of-health) calculations. A 1 % meter introduces 15 V error — enough to mask a degraded cell.
The EK-F598 Position
- 0.5 % basic DC accuracy — sufficient for service work.
- 4000-count display.
- True-RMS AC + DC.
- Combo insulation function (250/500/1000 V).
For higher-accuracy work, EK service teams can specify a benchtop instrument from the EK Pro Suite. Talk to EK for application-specific selection.
