CE Marking — Self-Declaration, Not Approval

The CE mark on a CE certified thermal imaging camera indicates the manufacturer's own declaration that the product complies with applicable EU directives. It is not an EU-issued approval. This distinction matters: any importer can be challenged to produce the supporting technical file.

Which Directives Apply

  • EMC Directive 2014/30/EU — confirms the camera neither emits nor is disturbed by electromagnetic noise.

  2. Test reports from an accredited (ISO 17025) lab against EN 55032, EN 55035, EN 61010-1.
  3. Risk assessment per ISO 12100.
  4. User manual in the language of the destination country.
  5. WEEE registration number for each EU member state of sale.

Red Flags When Reviewing a Supplier's CE

  • DoC signed by a Chinese entity with no EU representative.
  • Test report from an unaccredited laboratory.
  • Test report dated more than five years old, with no re-evaluation note.
  • Missing WEEE registration — blocks legal sale in Germany, France, Italy.

European importers and distributors are jointly liable for compliance. A non-conforming product can trigger market withdrawal, RAPEX listing, and customs seizure. Insist on the full documentation pack before shipping any quantity — not after the first customer complaint.
