2-in-1 Insulation Multimeter — One Tool for Two Critical Tests

The Service-Tech Calculation

A field service technician on a residential commissioning job typically does five voltage / continuity checks per insulation reading. Switching between two instruments costs 30 - 60 seconds each time. A 2-in-1 insulation multimeter like the EK-F598 collapses that to one zero-switch tool — saving 5 minutes per panel.

1. The Multimeter Side

  • True-RMS AC + DC voltage, 1000 V CAT III.
  • 4000-count display.
  • Continuity buzzer < 30 ms.
  • Resistance, capacitance, frequency.
  • Diode test, NCV indicator.

2. The Insulation Side

  • 250 V / 500 V / 1000 V test voltage.
  • Range to 1 GΩ at 1 kV.
  • Auto-discharge after test.
  • PI / DAR auto-timer with on-screen result.

3. Calibration Overhead

Two instruments mean two calibration cycles per year, two cert numbers, two sets of records. One combo means half the lab time. The EK-F598 is calibrated as a single unit with both functions on one cert.

4. When NOT to Use a Combo

  1. MV cable acceptance — needs 5 kV; use the EK-C350.
  2. High-current measurement — needs a clamp; use EK-G645.
  3. Earth resistance — needs 4-pole; use EK-C300.

For everything else — residential, light commercial, control wiring, industrial preventive maintenance — the EK-F598 is the right answer.

5. Build and Safety

IP54, drop-tested 1 m, CAT III 1000 V on both functions, sealed test-lead inputs.
